Appearance: Vine is slender, tall, and elegant in her appearance, though still young. She has yet to lose completely all of her kit-fat from her cheeks and ears, though her build is perfectly that of a prey-hunter of the Tribe: lean, lanky, with the wiry muscles necessary for crawling along the mountain ridges. She has high cheekbones and tall, pointed ears, granting her a somewhat exotic look, though her fairly plain pelt color does its best to dispose of that. Indeed, her build is almost identical to her mother, though it is not entirely noticeable because of her coloration.
Vine is a soft, warm brown tabby, though in certain lights, she can look fairly gray, only with a creamy muzzle, underbelly, and legs. Mostly, her tabby takes its form in being spots or flecks on her body, though toward her legs, tail, and chest, the inky chocolate markings turn into real stripes. Her face is paler than the rest of her body, and there is a dark line running from the insides of her eyes down her muzzle. Her dainty nose is mostly dark with a small blast of pink in the center. Her eyes, her large, sharp eyes, are a green, varying between yellow green and blue green.
Certainly, she is perfect as a prey-hunter. She has powerful back legs and hindquarters for jumping and kicking, and also has quick reflexes. If one did not know better, one might think that Vine were, in fact, a WindClan cat. That is, until she opens her mouth and one hears her Tribal dialect.
Personality: What Vine searches for in the world is stability and security, pure and simple. Well, as an end goal. In the meantime, she is curious and keen, though she trusts her instincts more than she trusts pure intellect. It hasn’t gotten her killed yet, and it always has worked when she was hunting in the mountains, so there’s no reason that it shouldn’t work now by the lake, an arguably less dangerous location. She wants to know everything about herself and about her own culture, and others’ cultures, because it will help her to make an informed decision about what best works to create stability and security for herself.
Sometimes, she feels beholden to the idea of conforming, as she was perfectly normal in the Tribe but, in the Clans, feels very left out. She always prided herself on being the shining example of an above average, but overall plain, prey-hunter; she took comfort in her culture and her home; she never felt the need to leave. In fact, many things have to be forced upon Vine, but once they are, she grabs them and goes, always throwing herself completely into things, even if she is at first reluctant.
When interacting with just about anyone, Vine is friendly, on the verge of flirty. She doesn’t really notice, she’ll just be touchy feely and laugh at lot; it comes to her naturally, and she doesn’t even try. In fact, she really doesn’t try for love at all. Is she against it? No, but she is very loyal, and, as stated before, is reluctant to try new things unless she is thrown into them. At the same time, she enjoys learning and is curious, but not to the point of going out of her way.
It is possible to accuse Vine of cowardice because she is not bold or rash in her actions, but rather stands back and stall until it is clear she has the advantage. Instead of rushing into things, she will be cautious and wait, something she may have inherited from her mother, but also that she has learned as a prey-hunter. She tends to try to deflect difficult questions and topics in the easiest ways that she can, whether it is humor or a topic shift or whatever. Oh, yes, and Vine does have a sense of humor, though she is not the Clan clown, perhaps, but she allows herself to laugh and have a good time. She is not uptight and strict about all things, just those that she deems important, such as tradition, culture, and heritage. She is moral and stubborn in those morals, but doesn’t care much about morality outside of her highest valued ideals listed before.
In addition, Vine is devout to the Tribe of Endless Hunting. She feels a strange connection to them, but never thought she could be a Stoneteller or that she actually read omens. Whether or not she does is a mystery to her, though she is observant and feels devoutly that the Tribe of Endless Hunting has saved her life in the past in its own, spiritual way.
History: Born to Bird that Fell from Sky and Fang of Flying Bat, granddaughter of the Stoneteller, Vine Hanging from Slender Tree was soon abandoned by her mother to be cared for by the kit-mother Mouse that Flees Under Rock, who had her own small litter. Stoneteller was frequently displeased with Vine and her natural siblings, though she had always believed that she and her siblings were blood related to Mouse’s kits, and she could not understand why there were always so many expectations set for her and a few of her littermates rather than all of them.
Vine, however, was naturally skilled at being a prey-hunter, and Stoneteller did not always seem so disapproving once she became a to-be. Hunting became her life and her joy, exploring the dangerous, craggy territory of the Tribe of Rushing Water. Smearing mud on her pelt, crouching, hiding behind rocks, waiting for the perfect moment, the rush of adrenaline and the sensation of victory, all of these things became so ingrained in Vine’s essence. She had always believed in the Tribe of Endless Hunting, but one day, when she was out hunting by herself, for a reason she cannot recall, she was attacked by an eagle, but she felt she saw an omen when she left the cave of an eagle on the branch of a slender tree, with its hard golden eyes on her. She felt her skin prickle, and she ducked down just at the right moment, recalling the eagle from earlier. This moment solidified her trust in the Tribe of Endless Hunting and her ancestors, though she never told the story to anyone except her best friend and, unbeknownst to them at the time, adopted brother, Shrieking Eagle in Flight.
When Vine was eleven moons old and named an official prey-hunter, Mouse approached her and her siblings and told them the truth: their mother was the Stoneteller’s daughter, and she had abandoned them and fled, leaving her kits with Mouse. Mouse did not reveal to them that Fallenstar had loathed them and had no qualms about leaving them behind. What she did reveal, though, was that their father was dead, and their mother left. She said that it was because Bird that Fell from Sky had been so torn with grief over the death of her mate that she fled from all things that reminded her of him. Vine was especially upset over this, and she vowed to find her mother at all costs, if only to meet her and to understand her heritage.
Vine approached Stoneteller and revealed her desire to go on a journey to investigate her mother’s disappearance, and that she would start with the Clans in case they knew anything. Stoneteller allowed her to leave, and so she did, bidding farewell only to her direct family, and then slipping out under the cover of night and using her skills as a prey-hunter to hide her tracks. When she finally arrived at the lake a moon later, she had difficulty finding any cats, so she picked a direction and started walking. A WindClan patrol found her and brought her back to camp, where she told her purpose, peacefully searching for family and answers. The leader allowed her to stay, on the condition that she would act as a bona fide WindClan warrior while she was there, hunting for the Clan and being under constant surveillance – like a kindly prisoner. She gladly accepted these terms; she has not been with the Clans for very long, and is suffering from slight culture shock as she tries to adjust and rush toward her goal.
